HERA is seeking a registered architect with 8 to 14+ years of experience, with interest in laboratory architecture and design, to work in our Bethesda office. This is an exciting growth opportunity for an energetic, self-starter to work in our new and growing office with scientific clients across the country, at the NIH and regionally. HERA works on challenging projects in a variety of laboratory environments, including government, undergraduate teaching, graduate research, biotechnology, forensics, clinical, and corporate labs.
Represent HERA in all communications with the client from initial effort, throughout entire course of project, including archiving, and in post-project marketing activities on a regular basis. Communicate with assigned HERA management executive (PIC) or other designee relative to project status and performance. Manages the HERA project team.
Work effectively in a collaborative teaming environment, taking responsibility for accomplishing tasks set out by the team and meeting deadlines.
Managing your own time and multi-tasking, while remaining organized and focused on several projects at one time.
Travel for client meetings, field surveys, and other project or office assignments.
Lab planning, design, and documentation, working with Subject Matter Experts from all HERA offices.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
Proactive individual with leadership and communication skills, good writing skills, understanding of contracts, fees and project deliverables.
Client Related Activities (Communications & Client Relationship)
Provides marketing support and presentations related thereto.
Assists in the preparation of client/HERA agreement (the written expression of client expectations and the firm’s commitments).
Participates in project related client marketing meetings.
May provide input into developing proposal.
May attend negotiation meetings.
Informs client of HERA services available beyond scope requirements for future service contracts.
Monitors performance of client responsibilities and communicates deviations to client.
Implements applicable HERA policies bearing on client relations.
Issues stop and start orders to team members and disciplines as related to project progress and client directives.
Project (Management) Activities
Project planning, initiation, close-out.
Project contract: Manages and maintains understanding of project contract.
Project reporting and billing activities.
Other contractual activities (may be done by PA, depending upon project size).
HERA Team Leadership / Staffing
Implements HERA policies having an impact on team activities.
8 – 14+ years’ experience in architectural offices; previous lab project building type and/or production experience a plus.
Bachelors or Master’s degree in Architecture.
Keen knowledge of building construction technology.
Very good speaking, writing, and listening skills.
Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Knowledge in graphics and rendering software such as SketchUp, Rhino, V-Ray, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.
